Austro designer Lena Hoschek has given it - and Katy Perry is following suit: colorful and lavishly decorated clothes in the Mexican style are the trend this spring.

The great role model for the look is the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, who died in 1954. During their lifetime they filled an entire dressing room in their "Blue House", posthumously "Fridas Wardrobe" ("Frida's clothes") now exude their colorful and lavishly decorated beauty in the illustrated book of the same name. The Mexican woman was known for her robes and necklaces, her floral decorations and the lace-trimmed skirts.

Not quite as colorful, but no less adorned, singer Katy Perry appeared at the premiere party of "The Great Gatsby" in New York. Her two-piece, consisting of a bustier and maxi skirt, was - despite its silvery color - a homage to the surrealist artist. The pop star's hairstyle was particularly reminiscent of Frida Kahlo: after all, the painter, who often portrayed herself, wore almost without exception a braided crown of hair with flowers.

The only exception to Katy's Frida Kahlo look: her soft pink pochette. It came - at least in a distant sense - from another famous fashion icon: (Coco) Chanel.
