Avocado Toast, Avocado Bowl - We can barely remember a time before avocados. The same fame will soon be due to figs.
Avocado toast with poached eggs, couscous bowl with avocado and nachos with guacamole. Is there actually better food than avocado? According to Firmenich, the world's largest private perfume and flavor company, 2018 could be the year of the fig. The Swiss brand has named the exotic and at the same time not so exotic fruit "Flavor of the Year" and offers a convincing argument for its soon meteoric rise.
Even if avocado won't fade from the scene anytime soon, it may still have to share the limelight with figs. Chris Millington, President of Firmenich, told Cooking Light magazine that the selection of fig-flavored products increased by more than 80 percent between 2012 and 2016.
The hype is due not only to the taste but also to the health benefits of the fruit. Figs are high in fiber and contain important minerals like magnesium, potassium, calcium, and manganese. Of course, they also taste sweet, which is why they are ideal for a smoothie bowl or as a delicious dessert.
