It is the first time that Amal Alamuddin-Clooney, human rights attorney, wife of Hollywood star George Clooney and mother of twins, had her picture taken for the cover of a magazine. In a fuchsia-colored robe by Alexander McQueen and sparkling Cartier earrings, she shines from the cover of US "Vogue".
But contrary to what the picture suggests, Amal does not reveal trite fashion tips in the interview or answer questions about baby food and society life, but uses the interview route for an intelligent conversation about stricter gun laws in the USA and the #MeToo- Debate that made sexual abuse and harassment a global issue.
"The discussion that has arisen around #MeToo offers women a global platform to share their stories. That sensitizes - and will make the world of work a better place for my daughter Ella than for people of my generation," says Amal. "Now we finally have the situation that the attackers feel less secure because they are being monitored more closely - and women therefore feel more protected in their professional environment." There is still a long way to go, but a start has been made.
Amal and George Clooney took part in the protest march in Washington in which protesters called for stricter gun laws after a rampage at Parkland high school. In addition, the celebrity couple donated $ 500,000 to support the initiators who want to continue their struggle. Amal in Vogue: "I've read a lot of comments on this topic. Very often the problem is played down or the blame for the increase in gun violence is put on action films or computer games. The fact that young people murder other young people is due to many things, but definitely not by how easily semi-automatic or automatic weapons are available in the US."
This reasoning is not admissible. There would be action movies or violent games around the world. But nowhere else are there so many high school shootings as in America. "The difference is how quickly and easily weapons are available from us."
She does allow a little glimpse into her private life: She spends a lot of time at home with her children and her husband. "We love to just be to ourselves. All the glamor of Hollywood: We don't miss it for a second when we're sitting in the garden and playing with the children." Amal and George Clooney live in Sonning-on-Thames, a small town in Berkshire, England, where they enjoy the greatest possible privacy.
