The skin disease neurodermatitis is sometimes difficult to diagnose and is often confused with allergies. In any case, this must be clarified medically in advance. But the annoying itching is already there and is difficult to bear, especially for children.

How can I recognize atopic dermatitis?

Atopic eczema is characterized by chronic, recurring inflammation of the skin associated with severe itching. At the same time, the skin is very dry. The symptoms of atopic dermatitis are very variable and change over time. While the acute form of eczema with strong, extensive reddening and oozing appearance predominates in babies and small children, predominantly chronic skin changes with a characteristic, coarsened skin texture and extreme dryness are found in older children and adults. In infants, the eczema is mainly localized on the face and on the extensor sides of the joints. Later, the typical flexion zemes are increasingly found in the inner surfaces of the large joints. Often, however, the eczema only appears in the form of so-called "minimal manifestations", for example hand eczema or chapped lips (cheilitis sicca).
