You actually want to look forward to the coming spring. It's finally getting warmer, the sun is shining in a friendly way, the birds are chirping and nature is sprouting again. But this is exactly where the problem lies for many: Because nature has apparently conspired against us. The pollen from birch, alder, poplar, willow and the like flying around ensures red and irritated eyes, a runny nose, annoying itchy palate and constant irritation for all those who suffer from an allergy to these.
But there are a few tricks to get through this year's allergy season or at least to alleviate the unpleasant symptoms without daily tablets or precautionary syringes for desensitization.
If the pollen load is particularly high - this is revealed by pollen warning services online or via smartphone app - it is best to stay indoors and keep the time outdoors as short as possible.
The room should only be ventilated at times of low stress. At lunchtime, the stress is usually the greatest, so ideally the windows should remain closed and you should stay inside.
If possible, clothes should be changed after being outdoors.
When outdoors, it helps to wear glasses or sunglasses to reduce the amount of pollen in the eye.
If the face is washed several times a day, additional pollen can be removed.
Wash your hair and shower in the evening and the unwanted guests say goodbye in the drain.
Stress and intense physical exertion should be avoided as far as possible, since our body is already fighting against the allergy triggers at peak times.
In the car, specific pollen filters can clean the air.
The home can also be made more pollen-proof: Special protective grids prevent up to 90 percent of pollen from entering.
Alcohol should be avoided as it dilates the blood vessels and thus the allergens more easily get through the mucous membranes into the bloodstream.
The best thing to do, however, is to simply take your vacation to the pollen wedding and leave all the anger behind. For example, off to the mountains, as pollen cannot fly above the tree line, or to the Mediterranean area, where the pollen load is also lower.
