Hardly anyone in Vienna knows what has long been established in the USA: dry bars. No, no drinks are served here, but hair is blow-dried. On the website of the Dry Bar by Davies salon we find a tempting offer: "Sit comfortably on the styling area with a welcome drink and create your look with us or simply choose a style from our menu! Wash - blow dry - style - refresh your make-up - and all for the price of only 35, -!"

The appointment for the Dry Bar can be booked online around the clock. I already give the salon a plus point for this. I get an appointment the same evening, excellent.
The first impression
The Dry Bar by Davies is located in a side street off Mariahilfer Straße in the 6th district. From the outside, the shop actually looks a bit American. Something like pin-up and 50s. When I come in, I am greeted warmly and immediately invited to a glass of champagne. In the middle of the salon there is a small bar and a comfortable sofa. Somehow it has a living room atmosphere with Marilyn Monroe charm. Completely different from most salons, which are rather cool and minimalist.
Wash and blow dry
When Frankie, my stylist for today, asks me what I want, I just say, "I want my hair to look natural but well-groomed." He nods and accompanies me straight to the sink. When I wash my hair, Frankie uses a Schwarzkopf care shampoo for my curls. "I'll put some conditioning treatment on your dry hair, if that's okay?" He asks. I agree and immediately think: "HIDDEN COSTS!" Often the hairdresser gives cheap prices and each shampoo, hair gel or other is charged extra. I am excited…
Make-up refreshment
While Franky is blow-drying my hair, Manu comes to my seat and asks me about my make-up ideas. She explains to me that this is just a refresh, not an entire makeup look. Here, too, I answer her: "Just do what you imagine - I'm going to eat in a restaurant today." First of all, she conceals my dark circles under the eyes (good woman), wears blush on my cheekbones, tints my eyelashes and applies a brown kohl to my lower eyelid. When it comes to lipstick, she lets me choose.
The final result
After exactly 50 minutes, I'm sitting there with perfectly blown hair and wonderfully natural make-up and I'm happy. Without giving exact instructions, Franky (hair) and Manu (make-up) managed to meet my taste. I'm looking forward to the final bill …
