Corduroy trousers, skirts and dresses: the fabric, which takes some getting used to, is celebrating its comeback. But how do I combine cord in such a way that I neither look too old-fashioned nor too fancy?

combine cord

Cord, cord, or even lace velvet has not only been used for the production of clothing since 2018. The material was particularly popular in the 1970s, which is probably why we are so nostalgic about it. Cord has been around in England since the 18th century. Back then you simply sewed several strings together so that they made a halfway impermeable fabric. The fabric is somewhat velvety and usually consists of cotton, with stretch cord mixed with elastane.

In the last few years it has been announced time and again that cord will return to the trend area, but there has not yet been such a real breakthrough. But now, in autumn 2018, it-girls can't get enough of the warming material. And that is also clear, because fashion is currently moving in a very specific direction: 90's looking back on the 1970s. That's why you'll find more bell-bottoms made of corduroy, angular jackets and short skirts in A-line style. All of these parts were already fashionable in one way or another in the 70s and 90s.

But anyone who is a child of their 90s knows that cord was particularly popular for children's items. So how can you combine the material today and not look like it was back then when you were 5 years old? We have a few simple looks for you:

The skirt Briefly with buttons on the front: this is how hipsters and Insta girls wear the corduroy skirt. To look cool and retro at the same time, the skirt has to be short! So that you don't feel too naked, it's best to combine it with an oversize shirt that is knitted into the skirt. The Mini is suitable for the office if you wear it with a casual blouse and tights. If you don't like things to be short, you should opt for the calf-length version: It looks more grown-up, but no less fashionable!

The dress The cord dress in the bib style is particularly hip! It doesn't matter what length you prefer. A distinction is made between bib dresses that are worn without a shirt and those that have to be worn with a shirt. The latter can be combined with cool, tight-fitting rib shirts and thus go completely in the direction of the 70's. If the dress can be worn without a shirt, it is usually cut a little more body-hugging. Casual ankle boots or sneakers then loosen up the look.

The pants Whether in work trousers look or bell trousers style - you can really let off steam here. It is clear that cord is bulky, which is why not every pair of pants looks equally casual on every body. Girls with more thighs should make sure that the pants are cut loosely, especially in that area, and that they do not contain too much elastane. Then it's better to go up a size and wear the trousers with a belt than to feel the fabric too tight on the leg.
