Do you want to beam yourself on vacation right now? Easy! Make yourself this fresh snack and you will feel like you are at a street food market in Southeast Asia.

When friends ask me about a restaurant recommendation, I always mention the "Pumpui" in Vienna's third district. Visiting there is like a mini Thai vacation. The chefs at the restaurant share the original recipe for one of their starters with us:
Som Tam Thai - papaya salad with dried shrimp (for 4 people)
You need this:
- 1 green papaya
- 2 carrots
- 3 snake beans
- 8 cocktail tomatoes
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 small chilli pepper
- 4 tbsp roasted peanuts
- 10 dried prawns
- 1 lime
- 2 tbsp fish sauce
- a pinch of palm sugar
that's how it works
Peel the green papaya and carrots and cut into thin strips. Put the cut papaya in a bowl, cover with water and let it steep. Cut the snake beans and tomatoes into small pieces. Crush the chillies together with the garlic in a mortar
or finely chop. Add the snake beans and press lightly. Add the sliced tomatoes as well as peanuts, dried prawns and lime juice.
Mix the fish sauce with a little palm sugar until the sugar has dissolved. Now mix the sauce together with the strained papaya, the carrots and the remaining ingredients. Serve and enjoy.
