Homework is simply part of school. Or not? In many cases, their meaningfulness is already being questioned - also scientifically. But this teacher has a far more humane reason why she doesn't give her children homework.

It used to be a matter of course, but is now a delicate point of discussion: Many are convinced that homework is important for children. Because they repeat what they have learned and practice and learn to work independently. Others, however, doubt the usefulness of homework and even declare it harmful, as it can also contain the potential for frustration and stress. Scientific studies confirm both sides: Because it is not just a matter of homework, but of the individual pupils.
Nevertheless, it always causes a sensation when a teacher decides to completely omit the exercises at home. As is currently the case with Texas high school teacher Courtney White. Her Tik Tok video explaining her philosophy behind the no homework decision went viral.
"There's no evidence that homework makes kids better students in my class. I respect their time outside of class, they work hard for me all day, they don't have to go home and do more homework" "Most of them are high school students. They have jobs, they have sports, they have internships, they are in a band, they have other tasks outside of school.
Some of them go home and take care of their younger siblings because their parents are at work. Some of them just have to go home and sleep. Some of them have to go home and worry about what they are going to eat because there is no food in their house,”Courtney continues. “So if I give them hours of homework, when do they have time to be kids? When do you have time to relax? Because when you come home from work, you also want to go home and relax."
"I know homework can be essential in some classes and there is no getting around it," Courtney said on Good Morning America. “I totally understand the reason for homework. But personally, I want to have a little more indulgence and let them know that it's okay to be human and go home and sleep."
