What is love anyway? Butterflies in the stomach? A warm feeling? These wonderful comics show that true love can mainly be found in the small gestures in our everyday lives.

Love is … easy. When we think of declarations of love, we have the spectacular wedding proposal, the incredibly romantic gift, the grand gestures in mind. But love that really accompanies you through a relationship for decades usually has only marginally to do with dramatic revelations. Rather, it is the small gestures that make a partnership wonderful, that show that closeness, appreciation, trust and reliability are the binders of love.
The British artist Philippa Rice has brought her first book onto the market under the title "Soppy". With her heartwarming drawings, she illustrates that, in the end, love cannot be measured in roses, engagement clunkers and heart emojis, but in the way we share the everyday things in life with a second person.

Sometimes love shows in the way we prepare our breakfast together on a lazy Sunday morning …

… or when we prefer to spend time together - even if we don't share it with each other

Love is when we unconsciously hug each other at night and cuddle closely together …

… when even the most normal of all activities is more fun as soon as we do them together

Love is when the biggest relationship dilemma is what we order for dinner tonight …

… if, even in those moments when you are overwhelmed by grief and anger, someone holds your hand tightly

All of a sudden, love is about the little things that weld you together and make you a team

It is love when even setting up an IKEA shelf seems like a funny game because you can laugh together at all the unsuccessful attempts

It is love when you package even unpleasant topics in such a way that your partner simply has to hug you …

… or when you roll around in bed together forever and babble about everything and nothing

Love also means knowing when to apologize to the other

And you realize that there can't always be rainbows and butterflies, but that it is the compromises that bring us forward as a couple

As long as we're both looking in the same direction …
