The sporty look is right on trend - and is constantly evolving. Using our favorite It-Girls, we'll show you how to style the athleisure pieces now!

Athleisure - a combination of the English words "athletic" and "leisure wear", which means something like "sporty leisure wear". It's the more fashionable, everyday version of a gym look. Showed in the 90s by none other than Princess Diana, who inspired the whole world with her off-duty styles. We remember colorful cycling shorts, cool hoodies and sneakers - worn with an extra dose of casualness.
And today's fashionistas - be they models, actors or fashion bloggers - have discovered the comfortable look for themselves. Stars, spotted by paparazzi in everyday life, wear leggings and sports bras. The style became so trendy that French Vogue 2019 recreated Princess Di's best looks in a shoot with Hailey Bieber.
While the athleisure trend has slowly but surely turned into a mega-trend in recent years, a change is noticeable in the current fashion scene: the look is being combined with other trends, and it is becoming a bit more retro. Much is reminiscent of sportswear from the 80s.
Baggy jeans, blazers, edgy sunglasses and designer bags - plus a sporty, retro-looking sweater, baseball cap, leggings or trekking shoes. You wear high fashion with gymwear. And vice versa. The result is great, creative and comfortable street styles.
New labels such as Sporty & Rich, 7 Days Active, Livin Cool or the Austrian brand Whyat emerge - and help to further develop athleisure. Although the pieces are sporty, nobody would really exercise with them. It's a fashion statement, a cool look - but we would never actually go out on the mountain or jog with our Sporty & Rich sweaters. At most to the gym - to get changed there;-)
When choosing shoes, we either rely on tried and tested classics such as the Adidas Stan Smith (the tennis shoe that was developed for athletes in the 1970s), Converse All Star, Reebok Club C 85 or New Balance 990 (the ultimate dad shoe!). Or, we rely on designer kicks such as the Balenciaga Triple S. A shoe that nobody will really wear to sport either.
